The Butterfly Story

A woman was walking along on a beautiful bright sunny day when she saw a delicate butterfly struggling to emerge from inside a cocoon.

She felt sorrow as she watched what she thought must be a painful experience.  So she thought she might be able to help it if she would just make a little hole so that the butterfly could emerge easier without such great effort.  Of course, this was out of concern and so she did just that.  The only problem was when the butterfly did emerge it could not fly.  You see without the struggle to become free from the cocoon the butterfly’s wings will not gain the strength they need in order to take flight.

I have found this to be true in my own life and so many others I have met on my journey.  It truly is the struggles in life that make us the strong people we are becoming today.  Let’s remember as mothers and grandmothers when we are tempted to make the struggle easier for our children to let go and let God.  We are all on our own journey.
